Biography

Find out more about me and how I felt in love with drums & music.

Well respected for both his precise chops, sense of groove and eclectic musical taste, the Cologne-based drummer has built up a solid name for himself as a musical artisan at the top of his game. His work has taken him across the USA, UK, Europe and the Middle East, playing with revered artists including Shadmehr Aghili, Olli Banjo, Bell, Book & Candle, and Sogand to name just a few.

Hailing from Coburg, Southern Germany, Johannes‘ journey with the drums began at the age of eight. During his high school years, he founded the indie rock band The Tunes and enjoyed touring their hometown area, creating and performing honest rock’n’roll music. During this time Johannes also played the piano, sang in the choir and practiced several hours a day on a regular basis, which eventually led to his enrolment at Berufsfachschule für Musik Nürnberg to undertake a 3-year musical masterclass.

Here, his teacher and mentor, Christoph Huber brought him up to speed on the importance of developing his individual voice behind the kit, while constantly pushing his creativity beyond what he perceived was possible. Directly after Johannes finished college, he decided to stay in Nürnberg and take his first steps towards becoming a bandleader and musical director. He founded his own cover band called Soundclub, launched The Soundclub Sessions in Nürnberg and later the Foxhead Collective in Cologne, a series of events dedicated to providinge aspiring singers and songwriters with a platform to showcase their talents. Before his move to Cologne, he spent time playing drums on cruise ships in the Carribean Sea.

As a born educator he currently owns and runs a drum school called Drumlessons Cologne, where he teaches drums in person and online and also offers drum recording services for clients worldwide.

23 years deep into his solo career, Johannes has now worked with internationally renowned artist Shadmehr Aghili, a heavyweight of the Persian pop industry, who he has now accompanied touring around the globe for several years.

They performed notable shows at the Demirchyan Arena in Yerevan, Las Vegas‘ MGM Grand Arena and at the Maraya, a Colossal Mirrored Concert Hall in the Saudi Arabian Desert.

Additionally, Johannes has worked with big names on television including Andreas Gabalier, Álvaro Soler, Bebe Rexha, was the main drummer and musical director for the Persian female singer Sogand and is actually the live drummer for the Kurdish Superstar Navid Zardi and German HipHop Newcomer Kasimir1441. He was also on touring drummer duties for famous German rapper Olli Banjo and many others.
